My personal experience Essay Example for Free
My personal experience Essay This story is from my personal experience where I was involved directly with the central character in this story. This story is about a little girl who had lot of aspirations in life and wanted to make a mark in this world. Though the name doesnââ¬â¢t matter but for the matter of convenience, let us call her Mary. Maryââ¬â¢s only fault, if it was, was getting born to parents who could only afford her education by skipping one meal in a day. Mary was above average and hence scored well in her kindergarten levels. The problem started when she was promoted to 1st standard where the level of difficulty increased for her. Her parents who could not read or write were of little help. In the daily grind of earning, when they could hardly afford the meals and her education, getting a tutor for her was a distant dream. This made the little bud sink as she always wanted to be the best and was ready to work hard as well but the conditions at home and school prevented her from unlocking her potential. On one side while her parents had their own rut to handle, her school teacher was not any considerate. She would hardly teach in the class and yet expect her students to perform the best. Well, her prestige was at stake. Any weak student in the class was a pain for her and she wanted to devise ways and means to expel the student who was not able to score. The first trimester results were declared and as expected Mary flunked in most of the subjects. She was not the worst but she was not above average any more. Maryââ¬â¢s teacher was infuriated with the results of the class, which was not as she wanted. She felt a necessity to teach last 10 rankers a lesson. What else could be better method than to physically torture the tiny tender kids, so that they never forget the lesson the learned teacher was trying to hammer on them. In no time, last 10 rankers were asked to stand outside in the sun which was blazing at the peak summer noon. No prizes for guessing that our Mary was also asked to stand in the scorching heat. The summer sun was too harsh for the slender frame of Mary who could not sustain and passed out on the ground. She was immediately rushed in the shade and nursed. This incidence further aggravated teacherââ¬â¢s indignation. It was difficult for her to believe that kids of Maryââ¬â¢s age can not sustain such punishments. She considered Mary to be faking the whole situation. Teacher remembered the incidence and sought to vindicate it at the right opportunity. It did not take much time for the right opportunity to come in. The Semester exams were going on. Mary was trying her best to prepare for the difficult subjects. Her parents had asked me to take few classes for her as a favor. I agreed and started coaching Mary on the subjects. She was having good grasping power and unique ability to apply the knowledge as soon as acquired. Hence, my effort was quite less in teaching her and the output was beyond my expectation. I started liking to teach her. Mary was working very hard to make up the grades. She was doing well in her exams, she used to tell me. On the day of her last exam, Mary was quietly writing her paper. The paper was easy for her as she was well prepared. The teacher, as vindictive she was, was watching for a slight error from Mary so that she could throw her out of the exam hall. To Maryââ¬â¢s misfortune, the moment arrived. A quick gust of wind flew Maryââ¬â¢s question paper to her fellow studentsââ¬â¢ desk. As Mary went on to pick her question paper, she was confronted slapped hard by her teacher who left no stone un-turned in proving that she was cheating. Mary cried, cried and cried but it all went on deaf ears. Fortunately, for Mary, the principal of the school was passing by. She stopped and asked the reason for the commotion. Thankfully, the principal believed Mary and allowed her to complete her exams. This was the last straw for the class teacher to consider Mary her sworn enemy. To rub salt on her wounds, Maryââ¬â¢s result was just excellent in the semester exams. She had topped, though over all she was 3rd ranker but still there were six months to go and Mary hoped that she would be able to regain her original position. And then the fateful day arrived. It was one week, since the school opened and Mary was quite excited to learn the subjects further. She was quick to answer the questions asked in the class and was doing very well. Finally, on that day, the teacher got into an ego clash and asked Mary to explain something which was way beyond Maryââ¬â¢s scope of learning. The teacher, infuriated, threw the duster with full force towards Mary which unfortunately hit Mary directly at her temple. Immediate brain hemorrhage followed resulting in on-the-spot loss of a life which was definitely not meant to be going this way. The teacher was tried in the court but she was released due to lack of evidence and on the ground of accidental but not intended hit. Life is going on usual for me or anyone else in the world, but definitely itsââ¬â¢ no more a fair world for me!

Industry Analysis of Furniture Market
Industry Analysis of Furniture Market Nidhi (ABM 11032), Abhishek Ranjan Besra (PGP 29368), Nikhil Madan (PGP 30323), Poem Kabra (PGP 30329), Anurag Kumar (PGP 30302), Nivaak Shah (PGP 30325), Ruchi Shah (PGP 30341) FURNITURE IMPORTS IN INDIA The furniture imports in India has maintained a significant growth in past years. The key factors leading to increase in imports in India are increasing housing and commercial construction, increase in income level and influence of global lifestyle on urban population of India which tempts them to move towards the imported furniture. Earlier the European furniture was the major contributor in furniture import in India but from past few years a major portion of furniture is imported from China alone. During July 28, 2014 to August 28, 2014, India imported wooden furniture worth USD 1,626,772 followed by Italy and United States which exported furniture wood worth USD 348,207 and USD 254,712 respectively. The import data for this one month can be shown in pie chart as below: Wooden Furniture- Major Supplier Countries by Value (in USD) during Julyââ¬â¢14- Augustââ¬â¢14 (Source:www.infodriveindia.com/furniture-wood-import-data.aspx) The furniture imports in India have increased upto 64% over the period of five years from 2001 to 2005. The increase in the furniture imports is shown in the graph below: Furniture Imports in India during 2001-2006 Source: http://www.ibef.org/download/Furniture_170708.pdf) LABOUR VS OUTPUT According to law of Diminishing Marginal Returns, the increase in one input beyond a certain limit keeping others fixed will lead to decrease in productivity. In furniture industry, the analysis of diminishing marginal returns was done by considering the labour involved in the manufacturing of table. A normal table in a dealerââ¬â¢s shop in Delhi, Godrej Dealers, costs Rs. 2000. The production of a table requires 2 labours. If 5 carpenters are allotted to produce one table, the productivity increases but if the labour input goes beyond 5, there is a fall in productivity of table furniture. The analysis can be shown in the graph below: (Source: Survey, Godrej Dealers) DEMAND ESTIMATION (Organized sector) To estimate the demand we have taken demand as a dependent variable and other factors like price of products, substitutes and income level as independent variable. Two hypothesis were taken; Null hypothesis: There is no relationship between independent and dependent variable and Alternative hypothesis: There is a relationship between independent and dependent variable. If one of the hypothesis is rejected other will be automatically accepted. For organized sector the demand function which is developed has Price of the wooden furniture (P), Income levels of consumers (I), Price of the metal/fibre furniture (P1) as independent variable and Expenditure of wood (Q) as dependent variable. Demand function Q= (P, I, P1). The primary data of price has been collected from Godrej dealers of the Godrej Company. Income levels were collected from CMIE reports. All the primary data are constrained to Delhi. To develop Goodness of fit, the function has been assumed to be liner and regression analysis has been done to estimate the demand. After regression analysis, following model is obtained: Q= 6773.461317- 0.3281P+ 0.02705 I + 11.7609 P1 R2= 0.699, Adjusted R2= 0.548 Coefficient of P- Price of the wooden furniture is ââ¬âve Coefficient of me-Income level of consumers is + ve Coefficient of P1- Price of substitutes (metal/fibre) is +ve The above results shows a bit more than a moderate relationship between dependent and independent variable. According to the value of R2, 69% of the demand variation is explained by the variation of the price of the products, income level and price of the substitutes. Others factors which are not taken into account into above model should be government policies regarding cutting and selling tress and woods, import of woods etc. The above coefficient of independent variable gives us the result which is related to microeconomic theory. It clearly states that the demand (Q) falls with rising prices of main product and rises with rising income levels and prices of substitutes. Fig no. â⬠¦.: Organized sector Regression fit quantity Price of product keeping ceteris paribus Fig no. â⬠¦.: Organized sector Regression fit quantity income keeping ceteris paribus Hypothesis testing: By using the value of obtained value of t-stat and P-values the above mentioned hypothesis will be tested. Table no. :â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦. Here, we have considered level of significance to be 5% i.e à ±= 0.05 and degree of freedom to be n-k-1, where n: no. of observations = 10 and k: no. of independent variable= 3 Hence, we get t (à ±, n-k-1) which is t (0.05, 6). From statistical table (t distribution) the calculated t- value is 1.943. Findings: Table no:â⬠¦.. According to the data independent variables like P and I doesnââ¬â¢t show any significant impact on Quantity demanded (Q) apart from variable P1 which is significant. This kind of result is obtained mainly because of less number of data. FUTURE OUTLOOK RECOMMENDATIONS As the furniture industry in India is largely unorganized and fragmented, it provides immense opportunities to domestic and global players. The main reason for increase in demand for furniture is on account of increasing purchasing power of the consumers, change in the lifestyle, increasing urbanization and availability in tier II and III cities. For increasing the product availability, organized furniture manufacturers are also getting into tie-ups with E-commerce retailers. The furniture retail chains are also focusing on increasing their presence in tier II III cities. ââ¬Å"India Furniture Market Forecast Opportunities, 2019â⬠, estimates the countryââ¬â¢s furniture market will grow at a CAGR of around 26% during 2014-19.Western region is likely to be the highest revenue contributor in the furniture segment, followed by southern region as there are a large number of industrial hubs and upcoming infrastructure developments in these regions. Over the next few years, the Indian furniture market is expected to witness increasing consolidation due to growing entry of international companies as a result of the governmentââ¬â¢s 100% FDI approval into the countryââ¬â¢s furniture industry. As a result, the share of small and mid-sized furniture players largely forming the unorganized sector is expected to fall over the coming years. The present market size of online sales in India is at Rs. 200 crore at present and is expected to grow five times to Rs. 1,000 crore by 2016. Certain categories such as coffee tables, bookshelves and shelves in general could be the bestsellers in the near future. This comes with its own limitations as certain items required to be seen and touched, like sofas. It is also believed that it will emerge as the most profitable segment in the e-commerce market.

Piracy of Technology Essay -- Computers Electronics Papers
Piracy of Technology The topic that I chose for my website and thesis project is piracy of software, music, and video from the Internet and other digital sources. With technology growing at faster rates than ever, this has become a very large problem practically overnight. Even though software and video piracy has become a huge problem, music copyright infringement has by far overshadowed these two. You can find a new article in the news about it almost every day and every one has an opinion including me. And I will be more than happy to share mine later. I will begin by discussing software piracy. This crime has been around for a long time. Unlike the others, it has been a problem ever since the advent of computers. It also comes in many shapes and sizes. It is also very easy to copy and the duplicate is usually as good as the original. From the day that a piece of software is created, federal copyright laws automatically protect it. The only way that a consumer can copy a piece of copyrighted software is to copy it onto a single computer or to make another copy for archival purpose only (Computer 2). It is very illegal to copy and sell copyrighted software, and there can be very heavy fines if a violator gets caught. It is considered a federal crime and comes with punishments of up to five years in jail and a $250,000 fine (Computer 2). There are many types of software piracy including soft loading, which is the purchase of a single user software license that is then loaded onto many computers (Computer 1). This occurs in the office most frequently. Counterfeiting is making and selling fake copies of real software. People also rent software to consumers when they do not have permission from th... ...stm. ââ¬Å"Computer Software Piracyâ⬠. 26 March 2003. http://bbb.org/library/pastip.asp. ââ¬Å"How to Stop Online Music Piracyâ⬠9 April 2003. http://www.pan.com/piracy/. ââ¬Å"MacOpinion: In Defense of Piracyâ⬠9 April 2003. http://www.macopinion.com/columns/curmudgeon/99/01/28.html. ââ¬Å"Music Piracy and the Home Audio Recording Actâ⬠9 April 2003. http://www.law.duke.edu/journals/dltr/articles/2002dltr0023.html. ââ¬Å"Music Piracy Report 2002â⬠26 March 2003. http://www.ifpi.org/site- content/antipiracy/piracy2002.html. ââ¬Å"Music Piracy Can Be Controlledâ⬠9 April 2003. http://www.pcworld.com/resource/printable/article/0,aid,16895,00.asp. ââ¬Å"Software Piracy and the Definition of Sharewareâ⬠9 April 2003. http://www.notepager.net/piracy.htm. ââ¬Å"Kazaa Taunts Record Biz: Catch Usâ⬠9 April 2003. http://www.wired.com/news/mp3/0,1285,55356,00.html.

Overcoming My Fear of Public Speaking :: College Admissions Essays
Overcoming My Fear of Public Speaking I could barely hold a pen. There was this faint, yet distinctly audible, buzzing in the room; I suspected only I heard it. My hands were shaking convulsively and the writing on the blackboard was blurrier than usual. My economics teacher called out my name several times before I acknowledged her. ââ¬Å"Carol, if the GDP per capita of Argentina falls, what is the most likely outcome? Carol?â⬠she said, in her stereotypical teacher like tone. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m sorry, what was the question?â⬠I asked. I was hardly in the state of mind to be answering questions about GDP and South America. ââ¬Å"Are you sure youââ¬â¢re all right? You look a bit pale. Maybe you should get a glass of water,â⬠she said. What she said scarcely registered. All I heard were the words ââ¬Å"waterâ⬠and ââ¬Å"paleâ⬠. My lack of focus was reaching a comical point; Iââ¬â¢m sure my fellow ninth-graders attributed my stupor to either sleep deprivation or a certain plant with intoxicating properties. Unfortunately, my daze was brought on naturally. I soon began to feel my heart pounding faster. I noticed how moist the palms of my hands were, and how cold the room had suddenly grown. My economics teacher, Miss Loyd, went on relentlessly. She was one of my favorites, but I still itched to dart from the class room. I kept repeating to myself, ââ¬Å"stay calm, youââ¬â¢ve got nothing to worry about,â⬠but emotions are never easy to control. The school bell rang, echoing throughout the building. In my ears, it was the sound of an executioner sharpening his sword. I felt my knees give way; I was, however, determined in my resolve. I would conquer my fears ââ¬â nothing would stand in my way. I made my way out of the class room, and with a shaky hand, pulled out the speech I would soon deliver. I smile as I write this, for I am now quite the orator. This episode of my first speech in front of a large audience will always humble me; unfortunately, I have an ego the size of a small planet when it comes to public speaking.
Renaissance Artifacts Essay
OBJECTIVE Renaissance world-view can be characterized by its humanistic orientation. The objective of this work is to analyze cultural artifacts from the Renaissance showing how they reflect the values of the time and will incorporate the testimony of two experts in the field. à INTRODUCTION à à à à à à à à à à à The manner in which the expression of values that exist within a civilizationââ¬â¢s culture during a time period in their production of artifacts has been noted in the study of archaeologist and anthropologists who report the different religious and cultural beliefs that have been revealed in those artifacts. The artifacts of the Renaissance are no different and study of the artifacts of this time period reveals much as to the values held by those who lived at that time. CONSUMERISM IN THE RENAISSANCE REVEALED à à à à à à à à à à à In the work of Charles Paul Freund entitled: ââ¬Å"Buying Into Cultureâ⬠published in the June 1998 Reason journal publication is the account of how one form of Renaissance art reflects the cultural values of that time evidenced in the statement of Jardine in the work entitled: ââ¬Å"Worldly Goodsâ⬠a 1996 history of the Renaissance. Stated by Jardine is: à ââ¬Å"Titianââ¬â¢s canvases of statuesque naked women in recumbent poses were regarded as learnedly symbolic by nineteenth century art historiansâ⬠¦.Only recently did contemporary correspondence come to light which showed that these works of art were painted to meet a vigorous demand for bedroom paintings depicting erotic nudes in salacious poses.â⬠(Jardine, 1996; as cited by Freund, 1998) Jardine gives the account of the Duke of Urbino referred to the painting entitled: ââ¬Å"The Venus of Urbinoâ⬠as a ââ¬Ënaked womanââ¬â¢ and of how that he was visited by a churchman in 1542 specifically the Cardinal Farnese who upon seeing the painting: ââ¬Å"â⬠¦rushed off to commission a similarly erotic nude of his own from Titan in Venice.â⬠(1996) To support the statement above of: ââ¬Å"â⬠¦a vigorous demand for bedroom paintings depicting erotic nudes in salacious posesâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ being the driver for these type paintings which characterize art during this time period Jardine relates the fact that when a report came concerning the progress of the paintingââ¬â¢s completion: ââ¬Å"â⬠¦the Papal Nuncio in Venice expressed the view that the Cardinalââ¬â¢s nudeâ⬠¦made The Venus of Urbino look like a frigid nun. ââ¬Å" (Jardine, 1996; as cited by Freund, 1998) Freund makes the comment in relation to the analysis of Jardine of the Renaissance that: ââ¬Å"What we regard as ââ¬Å"consumeristâ⬠behavior does not begin with industrialization and the manufacture of cheap, ready-made goods; it can be traced to antiquity. One revealing way to trace its past is through the proclamation through history of so-called sumptuary laws that attempted to control acquisitiveness.â⬠(1998) Freund relates the fact that it was those selfsame laws that effectively and ââ¬Å"expressly limited the quality of thingsâ⬠¦that any given individual was allowed to own or displayâ⬠stating additionally that these laws had as their purpose to ââ¬Å"â⬠¦maintain the political and status quo.â⬠(1998) The actual expression as noted by Freund concerning the work of Jardine is that Jardine is relating the ââ¬Å"â⬠¦the translation of material wealth into an assertion of individualism.â⬠(1998) ACCUMULATION, PRODUCTION AND EXCHANGE In the work entitled: ââ¬Å"The Production of English Renaissance Cultureâ⬠by authors David Lee Miller, Sharon Oââ¬â¢Dair, and Harold Weber and published in the Modern Philology Journal in February 1997 are nine essays that review subjects of literature from the Renaissances time period. Miller, Oââ¬â¢Dair and Weber have as their focus in their study upon how it is in this Renaissance society that: ââ¬Å"â⬠¦the cultural treasures and values of Renaissance England are entangled with the economic and political dynamics of accumulation, production, and exchangeâ⬠p.1 (1997) III. SEXUALIZATION OF CHRIST IN RENAISSANCE ART à à à à à à à à à à à Renaissance art was very focused on the depiction of Christ in a sexualized manner. The work of Janet Heer in a National Post article entitled; ââ¬Å"The Sexuality of Christâ⬠states that our ancestors ââ¬Å"had a healthier sense of the body than we do. Where we fear to glance at the right nipple of Janet Jackson, Renaissance artists lavished attention on the penis of Christ.â⬠(2004) Heer goes on to state that the art historian Leo Steinberg, ââ¬Å"In his 1983 classic ââ¬Å"The Sexuality of Christ in Renaissance Art and in Modern Oblivionââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ ¦.stated that: â⬠â⬠¦the first necessity is to admit a long-suppressed matter of fact that Renaissance art, both north and south of the Alps, produced a large body of devotional images in which the Genitalia of the Christ Child, or of the dead Christ, received such demonstrative emphasis that one must recognize an ostentatio genitalium comparable to the canonic ostenta tion vulnerum, the showing forth of the wounds.â⬠(Heer, 2004)It is additionally related in the article written by Heer that ââ¬Å"Steinberg demonstrated that these erotic images of Christ served a very specific religious purpose: they embodied the doctrine of the incarnation showing that Christ was fully human even though divinely perfect.â⬠(2004) SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION The Renaissance was a time of rebirth or reassertion and as shown by the works reviewed during the course of this study, the assertion of consumerism in the Renaissance society was a great driver in the production of art or artifacts from that time period. This work has further shown that the economic and political dynamics or the ââ¬Å"accumulation, production and exchangeâ⬠of goods is that which was the driver of the production of cultural treasures throughout the world during the period of time known as the Renaissance. à However, it cannot be said that consumerism only drove the production of art during the Renaissance. In fact, it appears that the art or artifacts produced during the Renaissance period reflect a spiritual shift in the world that was occurring in what seems to be a time that the world questioned more deeply their ââ¬Ëhumanâ⬠selves specifically as to their inherent ââ¬Ëhuman-nessââ¬â¢ and that connection to the spiritual world. Nutrition And Athletics
Good Nutritional practices play a very critical role in the physical performance of not only human beings but also all living creatures. To excel in any endurance physical activity, all the body systems must perform since the bioenergeticsââ¬â¢ functions of the muscles has to be sustained in order to function at peak levels. (Berning, J. and E. Hultman. 1972)Energy providing nutrients, carbohydrates, lipids (which are also known as fats), and proteins provide fuel for the bioenergetics reactions, vitamins and minerals on the other hand speeds up the rate the bioenergeticsââ¬â¢ reaction (acts as a catalysts); where water acts as a solvent for all these reactions and also serves as a cooling agents for the body from the heat which is produced by the bioenergetics reactions. (Bobb, A et al. 1969) All these nutrients are needed in appropriate quantities so as to enable the body function efficiently especially during exercise or sport. (Singh,V. N. 1992)Food is the major source of a ll these nutrients although sometimes nutritional supplements are used during critical times especially when a performer needs urgent nourishment either through oral or through introversions (IV) infusion. The gastro intestinal tract (GIT) helps to break down this food into smaller components (digests) so as to ease the process of absorption. The body cells then utilize the absorbed nutrients for all metabolic reactions in the body including energy production. (Asterita M. F, 1986) Studies show that the foods eaten today serves as a body part in the future therefore nutrition is very essential. This paper discusses the dietary requirements of an athlete, especially essential nutrients with regard to their forms, functions, food source, dietary recommendations and deficiency risks. BODY Athletes like all intensive /endurance physical activities is a high energy consuming exercise therefore diet is very critical and very essential for the health and performance of an athlete. However, Nutritional requirements for an athlete vary from one athlete to another depending on the time taken during training and actual performance. (Brouns, F. 1993)The aims of good nutrition in an athlete according to, (Buskirk, E. R 1997) include: o To help the athlete recover from performance or training o To prepare the athlete for performance or training o And to maintain the level of performance or training of an athlete Therefore unless an athlete is well nourished he/she may not exploit his/her full potential. This nutrition involves a balanced diet which is regular and with the required amount of proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and water. The individual nutrient requirements and the deficiency side effects include: CarbohydrateCarbohydrate is a very important source for an athlete. It is required to help the athlete sustain the high level of the activity and to prevent muscle cramps and fatigue. (Consolazio, C. F, and H. L. Johnson. 1972). Carbohydrate in the body is s tored in the muscles and the liver as glycogen and these stores must be continuously replenished. (Burke, . L. M, et al. 1991) Research shows that a person can store enough glycogen in the body to help him/her sustain an exercise for a period between 90 minutes to 120 minutes but however taking a diet low in carbohydrates can reduce this time to less than 60 minutes.à (Chen, J . D. 1993)Recommended carbohydrate An athlete is supposed to consume a meal containing between 7-10g of carbohydrates per kilograms, body weight of the individual athletes per day (7-10g/kg/bwt/day) consequently he/she should consume a pre-exercise meal 1-4 hours prior to the event and the meal should contain 1-4g of carbohydrate per kilogram body weight, however if the exercise is prolonged, one has to consume a carbohydrate during the exercise and these should be 30-60 carbohydrate per hour.If the athlete is to participate in frequent activities he/she needs to consume in immediate post ââ¬âexercise ca rbohydrate which is meant to aid in recovery in readiness for another performance (Bucci . L . 1995). He also says that this meal should contain 50-1000g of carbohydrate after every two hour until the normal meals resume. Signs of inadequate intake according to (Buxbaum, R, and L . J . M icheli) include: o Muscle heaviness o Lack of energy to train o Inability to concentrate for an extended period of time especially during an event o Poor recovery between training sessionsGenerally the carbohydrate requirement for an athlete will depend on the body weight, height, training, regime e. g. (Intensity and duration), Type of training and the gender of the athlete. Protein Requirements Protein is needed by an individual since it is involved in the building and repair of muscles and tissues the red blood cells, hair, finger nails, as well as synthesis of hormones. It is also required so as to reduce chances of development of iron deficiency anemia and improving the healing process incase o f an injury or disease. (American Dietetic Association and Canadian Dietetic Association, 1993).They further say that adolescent and adult athletes require 0. 6-0. 9g of proteins per kilogram per body weight per day (0. 6-0. 9g of protein/kg/bwt/day). During an intensive or enduring exercise energy production takes priority over tissue building however very little proteins is used as fuel when calorie supply is adequate in the body studies reveal that the best nutrients to provide fuel in athletic are carbohydrates and fats but they are inadequate or depleted gluconeogenesis takes place (process of converting non-carbohydrate sources such as Proteins to carbohydrates) to convert proteins in carbohydrates so as to provide energy.Proteins are the major sources of nitrogen in the body and nitrogen wastes produced after protein digestion require a lot of energy to eliminate which may otherwise be used during the event however nitrogen wastes are minimal when carbohydrates are adequate. Vitamins and Minerals. Fats are divided into two classes, first Fat soluble vitamins which include Vitamin A, D, E and K and second water soluble Vitamins which include Vitamin C and B complex vitamins. The body requires all these vitamins in amounts exceeding the recommended Dietary allowances especially in endurance exercises such as athletics but however care should be taken on fat soluble vitamins since if taken excess they may lead to toxicity which is detrimental to the health and eventually performance, but studies have shown that even if vitamins can be taken without conditions they do not contribute directly to the performance of an athlete, however, the reactions which the body uses to provide it with energy are controlled by chemicals which are mostly made up of vitamins and minerals that the body can only obtain from the diet.à (Allan ,J . G ,and K . A ,Overbaugh).Minerals on the other hand are very important in the health and performance of an athlete in that they act as catalysts and hence speeds the rate of reactions of energy provisions in the body. These minerals include calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, sulphur, potassium, sodium and chloride. It is therefore advisable that foods hat are high in vitamins and minerals especially fruits, green leafy vegetables, carrots as well as high biological valve proteins should be high in an athleteââ¬â¢s diet.Fats Fats are important sources of energy in the body. The body stores fat in the adipose tissue and under the skin it is the last to be used by the body incase of starvation or depletion of carbohydrates and fat stores in the body. However, in endurance sports especially athletics, excess body fat will often be detrimental to performance. This is because the increase in fat stores consequently raises the body weight and also the body uses a lot of energy to break down fats into fats acids so that it can be used.à (Chavez A, C et al, 1969)Excess fat in the body is not only caused by consumption of high fat diet but also by consuming large amounts of carbohydrates especially simple and sweet carbohydrates since they cause fat storage. Athletes are advised to consume high complex / high glycemic index carbohydrates since it releases energy slowly to the cells thus there is reduced fat storage. However athletes should eat smaller meals than non-sports people but in frequent intervals. Water Water is a non-calorific food because it does not give any calories to the body but it is extremely necessary. This is because the larger percentage about (60%) of the body is water and even small amounts of dehydration can have major effects on the performance of an individual. (Bobb, A, D . et al 1969) Water helps the body by protecting it against overheating (cools the body) and also as a means (blood) of transport for most substances in the body. Dehydration is very fatal in sports since it leads to reduced ability to exercise in the heat and also reduced mental skills such as concentr ation and decision making.Consumption of water is the key to optimal hydration but fluids such as diluted fluid juice or weak squash drinks after can help optimize hydration. While exercising athletes are often weighed before and after a session so that the fluid that has been lost can be replaced quickly. (Berning. J. R and S . N. Steen. 1991) Conclusion For excellence in exercise and sports, all body system must perform efficiently especially the muscles. This can only be enhanced through good nutritional practices. The body gets all the nutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, lipids/fats, vitamins and minerals) from the food on consumer or nutrient supplements.Athletes require higher amounts of carbohydrates than other nutrients since they are the major sources of energy: however, other nutrients can be converted to carbohydrate through the process of gluconeogenesis incase there is inadequate carbohydrates or there is depletion of carbohydrate in the liver and muscles where it is st ored in the form of glycogen. Water which is defined as a non calorific food is very important in an athlete since the highest percentage of the body is water and even small amounts of dehydration can have significant effects on the performance (both sporting and mental performance).Additionally high fluid levels in the body help to protect it against overheating and also provide the means (blood) of transport for most substances in the body. The bodyââ¬â¢s digestive system breaks down food into smaller components which are easily absorbed by the body cells and tissues and utilized during an exercise. Diet therefore plays a very important part in the health and performance (both physical and mental performance) of an individual and should be taken seriously.
